Nightrider 02:30
Wake up again Best get to steppin Work like a dog Walking the yard, then go back inside the kennel Chew through the lever Under the stars First night we're free Just dodged the cops Hide in the trees, still see pigs approaching Covered in Darkness Lying so still Can't make a sound Quota is kill Don't wanna be caught in these woods when the sun goes down Steady til mornin'
2.
TACT 03:41
Who. Who could ever? Who. Who woulda thunk? Few have ever ventured Flew overhead in search of bread can't find a worm for what it's worth, the early bird Who. Who could love you? You don't like yourself Two sides to each reflection view a mirror image opposing sunsets meet again and again in memory Tune out all the excess yellow, black and grey truth behind the bullshit Haterade and purple drank? No, just a water is great, thanks! I won't be having any of that.

Reigning it in like the way it began Harkening back to the first separation American legacy of lucid dreams Life and death in the land of liberty Climb the walls and watch your world fall Hiding in the park beneath the trees Turning the flag into a body bag Every sound we hear sounds like the police And you know it, when you bleed its comin true You look in the corner and stare at the crease Cuz the shadows have come from the north to the east Your voice echoes dust of the walls when you scream You only talk to people who think what you think It's so easy Plug your ears Align your qi Government cheese and modified green 7 figure head, a spiritual thief Can't wait to see who the next candidate will be And you know it, When you bleed its comin true
4.
Catch A Cold 03:29
Better come in quick Before you catch a cold I wanna get you home Before it snows I wanna see you, yeah Get what you need I would be out of line If I let you bleed You better be something Before you growin old You gotta get some Before you see it go Yeah, you don't see it The way it really is Ignore the gaslight Your ride is exhausted Come to a full stop And gain some perspective And in the stillness The part of you that hid can flourish
5.
Seemed like a good deal at the time Give us all you’ve got and you get your life You couldn’t have read it, the print was way too fine Your eyes stay fixed between the lines Candy coated dreams reflecting the light The raindrops hiss at the embers dying I’m not saying I was lied to Just saying you never told me the truth Dust piles shouldered, left, unused Don’t look so confused Overcome Redemption One more time To get it done Hold the line Run out of time Do I get to stay black in the afterlife Jet black, first class Let’s get the fuck out of here and try to relax All the fucks I gave expired This bottled rage it makes me vile

Mentat 01:05

7.
Fully 03:57
It's not a phase, was born this way Without directions or a say Life's a game don't wanna play And i'm not ok not bein ok Reconcile who I was It's a journey and a process Being seen by those you trust All you need is love... and a bunch of other stuff Another day and all the feels Wish for time enough to heal I don't know who need to hear this But, be you, you are perfect, Gon' ahead
8.
Battles 01:46
I really love myself And i'm happy all the time I'm not lying I keep my thoughts light And I don't wanna die I'm feeling fine I'm feeling fine Everythings good When I get my mind right I'm trying Don't wanna contrive a smile To get through this life So i'll fight for my mind
9.
Hold up, who dat, what happened? Spun around by a beautiful distraction Couldn't see half a year in either direction A living dream now its time to awaken Now its time to awaken Could be a thing if you just let it in And let go of the thing you've been You think you could have passion For the work right here that's needed? Pull up! The shit you talk has gotta come from the gut You gotta see it, feel it, be it, breath in, shut up if you don't mean it See the palette with which sunsets are painted The way the neon's bleed into the evenin Open to change and beholden to nothing Bring in the dark to spread the light of the morning And conjuring some magic We had it A potion You thought it could be good its much better than what i'd imagined
10.
City glisten it's the golden hour Talk about how we can see the lights It's just a vision that you That you can't see right now A night of living rolling out On the morning tide Outta sight Lights out can't hide Trying to paint and running into a wall of white Never knew the hue was right in front of your eyes Back when I was young I didn't listen To my hearts true intuition Your dreams become your mission Ignorance is blistering Once you choose your direction Too hot in the kitchen Get your air conditioned See what you're missing sweating See what you're missing sweating it See what you're missing sweating See what you're missing It just kept on repeating Like all those fleeting feelings Drip like the blood we're bleeding Man's endless search for meaning Lights out, can't hide Thought it'd come to you when you got big Now you know it is exactly where you left it

about

Their latest album, G.O.V.T. Graffiti, was recorded with legendary Seattle producer Jack Endino and is the “best sonic realization of our band to date”. The album was intended to be a lighter perspective on life, but then a pandemic happened, and a nation wide uprising for civil rights was born out of Minneapolis. As the album was delayed, the songs on the album began to change and evolve into not a lighter perspective, but a more raw, honest, vulnerable snapshot of where we are with hopeful eyes (if you can still muster hope) looking to the future.

“G.O.V.T. Graffiti” is confident within its garage rock, punk, and soul definitions. Substantively it's an exploration of personal growth, and a shedding of the naive examination of American society and culture, to garner true critical thought and solutions to the messes we find ourselves in.

Off the top the smokes break the gate with a driving blasting fight between consonance and dissonance in “Nightrider” a song about the innocent truth of wage slavery and the only true way to escape it, don’t get caught up in it. It takes a reimagining of what is known and what is possible, but it's a clear solution. The second track “Tact” reveals a side of the Smokes seldom shown. Characterized by a sparseness of both rhythmic and harmonic excess, the vocals and intentional space are able to be explored more than ever before. The melody beckons, “who could ever love you, you don’t even like yourself” and floats into a slowly churning lake of guitars, that carry the falsetto to listeners ears. “Fully”, another song about self growth, self love and self care, examines the valleys in the wave of self growth, the times when its harder to see the sun through the trees, and focusing on the joy of just the trees, and how they are just as important in the harmony giving life to the body and the planet.
